Hi there! My name is Román Zapién-Campos. I am a researcher interested in the ecology and evolution of microbial communities. Although I have primarily relied on mathematical modeling, I am interested in combining this with experimental methods, aiming for dialogue between them.
Currently, I develop quantitative approaches as an MSCA & UKRI PostDoc Fellow with Wenying Shou in the Centre for Life's Origins and Evolution (CLOE) at University College London (UK).
Previously, I was a PostDoc at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology (Plön, Germany), where I also completed my PhD. I worked with Arne Traulsen in the Evolutionary Theory department, studying microbes associated with hosts – often called microbiome.
Before my PhD, for my BSc thesis in IPN (Mexico), I developed a spatial model to investigate the preservation of microbial diversity in highly antagonistic communities. Afterward, during my MRes thesis at University College London (UK), I modeled how microbial interactions could be engineered to sustain a stable mutualism.
A list of my publications can be found here.
I am always up for a little chat, do not hesitate to get in touch.
Have a nice day! :)
